Overview

Lucy Atkinson’s practice is focused on medical malpractice, personal injury, nursing home abuse, and civil litigation. She represents those who have been wronged by caretakers or other parties in a variety of healthcare and general settings

Prior to joining Cook & Tolley in 2015, Lucy lived in Atlanta working at law firms that handle general commercial litigation as well as insurance defense practice with emphasis on premises liability, catastrophic injury, and medical malpractice.

Outside of her work, Lucy is a dedicated resident of the Athens community, volunteering and serving a variety of organizational boards aimed at bettering the lives of those around her, including the Athens Area Cancer Auxillary, Brightpaths, Emmanuel Episcopal’s Mission and Extended Ministries Committee, and she is an active member of the David C. Barrow Elementary School PTA.

Lucy received her undergraduate degree (B.A. in English) from Washington and Lee University and her law degree from the University of Georgia.

Community Service

Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary from 2013-2016, chairing the spring fundraiser from 2014-16. I served on the board of directors of Family Connection – Communities in School from 2018 – 2021 both as the resource development chair and the president. Since 2021, I have served on the Brightpaths board of directors. I also have served on the Mission and Extended Ministries Committee at my church, Emmanuel Episcopal, since 2019 and have been serving as the chair of that committee since 2023. I am also an active member of the David C. Barrow Elementary School PTA.
